Every year for at least 25 years, an ecumenical group - Anglicans, Catholics, and others - have been going to the Beguinage in Bruges, to live and prayer for the visible unity of Christians. We stay with the Benedictine Sisters at their monastery in the beautiful setting of the Begijnhof. We always go at the time of the Patronal Festival on September 8th - Our Lady of the Vine, and honour their 14th century image of the Mother of God bearing her Son, Himself the Vine. We also visit the Basilica of the Holy Blood for its Friday principal sung mass, and venerate the sacred relic of the Lord's Passion.
Each evening there is a talk of Marian, historical, ecumenical or other spiritual interest; we worship with the sisters at their offices (Gregorian chant in Latin), and there are celebrations of the Eucharist for both Catholics and Anglicans.
